7 months into my network marketing business, I had recruited zero people. 

I had reluctantly handed over my cell phone to my upline, agreed to hold my first home meeting, sacrificed my evenings and Saturdays to get trained at company events, and listened “Awesome Out Of Town” expert speakers.

I had driven hundreds of miles and coughed up my hard earned cash to stay a night or two in fancy hotels (my wife and I only dreamed about staying  at some of these places!)

Of course, I was starting to get the “I told you so’s,” the “are you still doing that thing?” the “you have a good paying job in a respectable profession, why are you doing THAT thing…?

..as if my friends and loved ones were ganging up on me like some sort of intervention.

But, out of the blue…everything changed the moment I spotted a small google ad that said: “Are you tired of chasing friends and family, doing hotel meetings, and rejection?” Click here.  

Long story short, I did click here, and after learning the secrets of how 6 & 7 figure online marketers were building their network marketing company entirely online from home, I was hooked!

(although, back then, I had to drop a ton of cash to attend a 3-day mastermind event at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, CA)

1. Mindset

First, let’s make sure you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into…

“No one deserves instant success In this industry” Jonathan Budd (FYI, just to hear those words straight from the horse’s mouth cost me 5K)

They say network marketing is a journey in personal development disguised as a business opportunity.

Well, online marketing is definitely a journey…into the unknown.

Here are a few tips:

When you go online be prepared to spend a lot of time in front of your computer (especially the first few months until you get everything in place)

You’re going to have to get familiar with a lot of ‘new stuff’ and endure learning a brand new skill-set

but…

It’s a skill (and a highly profitable one) that will only last you the rest of your life.

But what do you do when you learn something new and are faced with a significant learning curve?

You take it all in one step at a time.

You stay patient as you go through the process – day after day.

You avoid confusion and frustration.

You focus on the big picture.

You get help when you’re stuck.

You move past any hurdles that pop-up by keeping our eye on the big picture.

You learn, then implement.

Most importantly, you remember there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. 

Scared? (don’t be)

The benefits of not having to be away from your family as you build your business could be all the motivation you need.

Now, I envy the elite distributors in my company who gutted out for 5 to 7 years it takes to build large organizations, get past the no shows, the naysayers, the attrition – with grit…took the plane flights and drove thousands of miles. There is no substitute for that hard work. However, it’s not for everyone.

That’s the purpose of going online  – to still create passive income and build your organization

when building the old school may not be an option for you in your current situation. 

However, you’re still going to hit roadblocks and get stuck. And that’s when community and surrounding yourself with online mentors and peers become so vital.

An important part of the equation is knowing where to go to find answers or knowing who to ask to find answers (more on this later).

The last thing is…

You’ve got to make time for your business.

Building a business online is completely different than building it offline.

It requires testing and tweaking, keeping up with the latest strategies, and investing the time to get it all done.

You have to lock yourself in a room at times for hours, eliminate distraction, self-doubt, and be mentally tough, ready to test and fail. Then rinse and repeat.

You need a proven strategy that works.

And there are two different ways that you can build your network marketing business online.

Prospecting on Facebook 

…no new skills required! (you can start right away)

All you need is a personal Facebook account, nothing fancy. 

You just search for local facebook groups.

It could be health & Fitness, Travel, or a group for local Moms & Dads. It could be a group about a hobby you enjoy…cooking, yoga, etc..

You just join the group and start up conversations with potential prospects.

The next step is to get them on the phone and invite them to a webinar or Zoom meeting.

..it’s the same skill set (FORM)

But the challenges with social media is you’re always busy…

• You’re always messaging.
• You’re always keeping track of all your conversations (probably you’ll have multiple conversations going on at once)
• And you’re always following people – following what they post so you can drop a comment to remind them you’re interested in them.

Although it can duplicate, it can become very time intensive, which is o.k. when you’re just starting out.

The majority of people eventually will start searching for something easier and faster – a way to create leverage in their prospecting…

This is where you offer “free help” to other marketers actively searching online for help on how to grow their business.

It works something like this:

Say a distributor has run out of people to talk to about his or her business. He or she might go online and search for “how to get more people to talk to about my business.” And…

you happen to have a training that teaches distributors ‘how to get leads using Instagram.’

Well, you could see how easy it would be to finally stop having to chase people around the internet all day long.

In fact, with the right system in place, you quickly become the authority so people will naturally want to seek you out, instead of YOU awkwardly seeking strangers.

Imagine your inbox filled with responses like this…

“What are you doing? I want to learn more!”

Systems also help you to scale and accelerate the growth of your business faster.

The problem with putting systems like this together is that you will have to learn some new skills (that will only last you the rest of your life) and you’ll have to invest some money to put it into play.
